Don Cassels

JOHNSTON – Mr. Donald Goodwin Cassels, Sr., 83, died Tuesday February 14, 2012. He was born February 4, 1929 in Johnston, the son of the late William P. Cassels and Anna B. Cassels. He was predeceased by his brothers William P. Cassels, Jr. and Wallace C. Cassels and his sisters Grace Ellen Hemphill and Melba C. Kimbrell.

 

Mr. Cassels was the retired owner of Bland Furniture Co. In earlier years, he had owned paving and construction businesses.

Active in the Jaycees, he served as President of the Johnston Chapter. He became a Regional Vice-President, a State Vice-President, and a National Director. He was a charter member and served on the Board of Directors of Pine Ridge Country Club. He also was a past board member of the Southern Home Furnishings Association. He was a member of the Johnston United Methodist Church and the Wesley Bible Class.

Mr. Cassels is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marguerite S. Cassels, a son, Donald G. Cassels, Jr. (Margie), two daughters, Sharon C. Newman (Bob), and Diane Woodring. He is also survived by grandchildren, Seabrook Jacob (John), Donald G. Cassels III, Jennifer Cassels, Jaime Bryan (Russell), Robert Newman, and Elizabeth Woodring;  great-grandchildren  Kayleigh, Grace Ellen, and Aimee Bryan and Collin and Felicity Jacob.

Funeral services for Mr. Cassels were held Friday February 17, at 2 P.M. at the Johnston United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Keck officiating.  A visitation for family and friends was held after the service at the church. Internment was private. Memorials may be made to the Johnston United Methodist Church, P.O. Joan B.Morgan

EDGEFIELD – Mrs. Joan Bryan Morgan, 76, of Key Road., wife of the late Wade Morgan, died Friday February 17, 2012 at University Hospital.

Funeral Services were held Monday February 20,  at 11 A.M. at Red Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Morgan was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. She was an Administrative Manager in Continuing Education at the Medical College of Georgia.

Survivors include three daughters- Becky (Troy) Quarles, Susan (Timothy) Mosley, Cyndi (Michael) Noikov; six grandchildren- Devon, Katie, Megan, Morgan, Preston, and Lindsey; two great-grandchildren- Rheuy and Holly.

Lena Wiggins

JOHNSTON. – Funeral services for Mrs. Lena W. “Chill” Wiggins were held 1:00pm Saturday, February 18, 2012, at  Amos & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Minister Damien Bryant as the eulogist and The Rev. Micheal Key officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Garden. She is survived by a son, Darnell Wiggins of Johnston; six grandchildren, Derrin Pixley of Rochester, NY, Latockqua Daniels of Edgefield, Darnette Wiggins of Johnston, Damien (Debbie) Bryant of McCormick, Stacy Bryant of Augusta, GA, and Trek (Kim) Bryant of Oakland, CA; three great grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren and a son-in-law, James Daniels of Johnston.
