Rosemary P. Bledsoe

WHITMIRE – Rosemary Perry Bledsoe, 59, of Whitmire, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Bledsoe was born on November 19, 1952, a daughter of Rudelle Hite Perry and the late Royce Kistler Perry.

Rosemary worked many years as a nursing assistant at Newberry County Memorial Hospital and enjoyed gardening and fishing.  She was a loving mother and grandmother and especially treasured spending time with her granddaughter, Addison.

In addition to her mother of Johnston, Rosemary is survived by her children, Lauren, Lindsey, Wil and Garrick Bledsoe all of Whitmire; granddaughter, Addison Bledsoe; sister, Alice Dawn (Grig) Herlong of Saluda, brother, George Perry of Summerville; and faithful companion and best friend, Barry McDaniel.  She was predeceased by a brother, Royce “Buzz” Perry, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon,Wed., February 29, at Friendship Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Tobias. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Johnston. Dr. Richard  Guobaitis

MIAMI, FLA. – Dr. Richard Joseph Guobaitis, 50, of Miami, died Friday February 24, 2012 in Florida. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday March 1, at 11 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Dr. Guobaitis was born in Albany, N.Y. and was raised in Edgefield, S.C. He was the son of Mrs. Nancy Taustobaite Guobaitis and the late Vince Guobaitis. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was an emergency physician.

Survivors include his mother, two daughters- Laura Guobaitis, and Helena Guobaitis; one brother- Vincent K. Guobaitis; two nephews- Richard Berry, and Michael Guobaitis; one niece- Lindsey G. Bracken. Mr. Guobaitis was predeceased by his sister Helen Berry.

Chester F.Jennings

TRENTON – Sergeant First Class Chester Field Jennings, US Army (Ret.), 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Born, raised and educated in Edgefield, SC, he was the 12th and last surviving child of the late Will and Lena Glover Jennings. While attending Bettis Academy he was called to the service of his country on April 21, 1943. Having had the distinction of serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict, he participated in the Battle of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe in WWII and the Summer, Fall and Winter offensives of 1950 in Korea. SFC Jennings received among many decorations and awards the POW medal, the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Starand the French Fourregere. Prior to his retirement from the military, in 1963, Mr. Jennings wed the former Fannie Mae Jackson in 1956 who preceded him in death. He was a member of Jeter Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. After his military career he operated a Texaco Station at the intersection of Bettis Academy Rd. and Hwy. 25. He sold this and worked with USPS as a letter  carrier. He is survived by his son Chester Fitzgerald Jennings, Irmo, SC and grandsons Daniel Day Jennings, and Lucas James Jennings of Boiling Spring, SC. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ethel Helen Jennings. Amos & Sons Funeral Home of Johnston is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services with full military rites will take place Sat., March 3 at 11 a.m. at Mount Canaan Baptist Church.

 

Jessie Fay Sigers

EDGEFIELD – Jessie Fay Sigers, 82, beloved wife of EJ Sigers for 65 years went to be with her Father God, Wednesday, February 29, 2012. She was born in Banning, GA and was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Miller Stitcher and Zora Craft Stitcher and her sister Dorothy Morgan.   Mrs. Sigers was a devoted homemaker, avid doll collector who she shared her blessings from God in many kind and caring ways.

Along with her husband, she leaves to cherish her memories with her daughters, Teresa Jeter (Harry) of Columbia, SC and Sheila Huiet (Gene) of Edgefield, SC. Sisters, Margie Lemming (Calhoun, GA) and Opal Biggers (Rockmart, GA)  She leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews as well as the joys in her life which include her grandchildren Shane Jeter (Morgan) Raleigh, NC, Lissy Huiet Easley (Jaime), Laura Jeter Scale (Josh) both of Charlotte, NC, Haley Huiet Williams (Justin) Asheville, NC. Gantt Huiet of Edgefield, SC and great grandchildren Chaney and Banner Scales, Davies and Huiet Easley.

Visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30 am Friday morning at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home in Edgefield, SC with graveside services following at 11:00  at Ebenezer Cemetery in Trenton, SC. with the Rev. Stacy Williams officiating.

The love and support by the employees of Edgefield County Hospital and University Health Care as well as family, friends and Edgefield First Baptist Church has touched the hearts of her loved ones beyond measure.

Rich Whittle

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – Carl Richard “Rich” Whittle, 60, passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2012. Rich was born on September 2, 1951 in Aiken, SC. He grew up in Johnston, son of the late Carl and Valarie Whittle, graduating from Strom Thurmond High School in 1969 and is survived by two loving siblings, Don Whittle (wife Pam) and Nona Kelsey (husband Bill) both of Johnston. Rich graduated from Sewanee University before serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He worked as an accountant in Grand Prairie before he found his life’s vocation as an educator. Rich enjoyed teaching special needs youth. In recent years, he enjoyed coin collecting, swimming, and spoiling his favorite daughter, his dog Sara. Rich was a family man, who loved and is survived by wife Elizabeth Whittle, and daughters Mary-Elizabeth and Dixie. He had a wry sense of humor, enjoyed watching professional baseball, and playing cards-especially bridge. Services were held at First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie, in Baker Chapel on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10 a.m.

 

Sarah F. Wyndham

JOHNSTON –Services for Mrs. Sarah Friar Wyndham, age 85, were held Saturday, February 25,  at 2 pm at Providence Baptist Church with interment  in Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at Bland Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 1701 Hwy 191, Johnston, SC 29832.

Mrs Wyndham, a native of Johnston, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012. She was a daughter of the late Dennis and Sallie Thomas Friar. Mrs. Wyndham was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church

Survivors include her husband: Mack Wyndham; son: Mack Wyndham, Jr. (Tammy), Jackson; daughter: Dora Moody (North Augusta); brothers: Joe Friar (Frankie), Johnston; Tommy Friar (Linda) Columbia; Sister: Ecie DeLaughter (Edgefield). Sister-in-Law: Pat Friar (Trenton), and three grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
