Fireworks, entertainment coming to Edgefield June 30

The first ever Edgefield Turkey Palooza will take place June 30 at the National Wild Turkey Federation’s campus just south of Edgefield. The event will include a large fireworks display, entertainment by several live bands, food, games for adults and youth, fishing, prize raffles and silent auctions.

The Town of Edgefield, the NWTF, WJBF Channel 6 and many business sponsors from the area are partnering to host this family-friendly event.

“We’re excited to work with the NWTF on this event,” said Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham. “It will be a fantastic late afternoon and evening of fun, games and fireworks. Thousands of people from across the CSRA can experience everything Edgefield and the county have to offer, from great shopping and dining to our rich history in pottery and the arts.”

Added NWTF CEO George Thornton: “We’re honored to work with Mayor Durham and the town to provide this opportunity for the great people of Edgefield and the CSRA. By hosting this event and welcoming the public to our campus, we hope to help people get to know the NWTF a little better and educate them about the importance of wildlife conservation.”

The Edgefield Turkey Palooza will start at 4 p.m. and will include music during the afternoon and evening from at least two bands. Final details on the entertainment will be announced in coming weeks. Fireworks are scheduled to begin about 9:15 p.m.  No outside coolers are permitted on the grounds.

There will also be numerous free activities, including:

  • Live bands
  • Take One Make One virtual hunting and fishing trailer by South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
  • Pellet gun shooting at the JAKES Take Aim inflatable range
  • Fishing at the NWTF pond
  • Face painting
  • Pottery displays and hands-on activities by the Edgefield Area Clay Guild
  • Various crafts and games
  • 3-D archery shooting
  • Open admission to the NWTF Winchester Museum

There will also be a turkey shoot and archery competition with prizes, along with games and a dunk tank with local personalities.

Barbecue, hamburgers and hotdogs will be available through the new Barton Barbeque in Trenton. Barton Barbeque, owned by Ronnie Barton of Barton’s Butts, is scheduled to open July.

Local nonprofit groups are also encouraged to contact the NWTF about booths and fundraising opportunities at the event. For more information about the event, to sponsor or get involved, contact Brent Lawrence at blawrence@nwtf.net or (803) 637-7682.
