Elizabeth C. Bryan

EDGEFIELD – Ms. Elizabeth Catherine Bryan, 95, passed away Saturday May 5, 2012 at Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson, S.C.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 9, 2012 at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church at 2 P.M. with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Ms. Bryan was born on September 11, 1916 in the Meeting Street section of Edgefield County. She was the daughter of the late Preston Brooks and Velma Louise Odom Bryan. Ms. Bryan was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church Columbia at the time of her death. Prior to that, she was a faithful member of her church in Richmond Va.

Ms. Bryan grew up in Edgefield, S.C. graduating from Edgefield High School. She received a BS degree in Nursing from Roper Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston (MUSC). Ms. Bryan was a retired Major in the U.S. Army and retired from the V.A. Hospital in Richmond Va. During her active duty in the Army, she served during WW II in Europe and participated in the D-Day invasion in Normandy France.

Ms. Bryan retired to Columbia, S.C. to be near her family and lived there for several years before moving to the Anderson area. During her civilian career and during her retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the world with family and friends, visiting every continent in the world.

Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by 9 sibling; Preston Butler Bryan, Greenwood, Glenwood Bryan, Edgefield, Ellis Beale Bryan, Clinton, Harry Odom Bryan, Spartanburg, Louise Bryan Bartley, Edgefield, Lena Bryan Brown, Depew, NY, Nell Bryan Kelly, Martinez, Ga., Martha Ida Bryan, Darlington, and Mary Bryan Hobbs, Sardis.

Ms. Bryan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Ms. Bryan was a firm believer in higher education and in 1990 established the Elizabeth C. Bryan Educational Trust Fund to help fund higher education for her nieces and nephews. Many have benefited from her generosity in pursuing university and advanced degrees.
