Sheriff’s Office Confiscates More Poker Machines

An investigator with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office made a fortunate discovery Friday afternoon while on routine patrol on the south side of Highway 25. As he patrolled the area, the investigator noticed a trailer outside of B&M Carpets being loaded with poker machines.  The trailer was already quite full and two men were preparing to load the final two machines when the investigator arrived on the scene.  The two stated they picking up the machines on orders from their boss who owns an amusement and gaming business in Sumter.

Jacob Shaw, Jr., 63, and Christopher Barkley, 19, both of Sumter, were arrested and charged with possession of illegal gambling devices.  Who is actually responsible for the illegal games being in the B&M Carpets location is not yet clear.  B&M Carpets has not operated as a carpet business for some time.  However, the investigation into this crime continues and more arrest are possible as the case develops.  In all, a total of 17 machines were confiscated along with the truck and trailer.
