Vilma S. Timmerman

EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Mrs. Vilma Spell Timmerman, widow of the late Joe D. Timmerman died Tuesday August 21, 2012.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday August 23, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.

She was born in Dorchester County, S.C. March 9, 1915 in the ancestral home of her Great-Grandfather CPT Daniel Shieder Canady. She is the last surviving child of the late Ione Westbury and John Tillman Spell. Mrs. Timmerman moved to Batesburg, S.C. in her early years graduating from Batesburg-Leesville HS and attended college. She was a avid Tennis and Basketball player becoming Captain of the High School Basketball Team.

She married Joe Timmerman on December 25, 1941, who was drafted on the first draft and became a WW II wife experiencing a husband being overseas for two-three years and enduring major battles Normandy and The Battle of the Bulge. After the war they settled in Edgefield, S.C. to start a family and remained the rest of their lives, a part of the Greatest Generation.

She enjoyed reading, sports, was an avid bridge player club member for sixty years. She was a member of Les Dames Des Fleurs garden club, and the First Baptist Church in Edgefield.

Mrs. Timmerman is survived by her children Doug Timmerman, Edgefield, Stacey (Cindy) Timmerman and Jan (Dave) Leverett, both of North Augusta.; Seven Grandchildren, five Great grandchildren and a special friend Warena Mathis. She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Spell Hare, Mary Olive Spell Seigler, a granddaughter Karen Leverett, and a grandson Willis Dean Timmerman.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Roger Timpson.

The family is at the home of her son on Wigfall St. in Edgefield.
