Edgefield to Welcome Southern Studies Showcase

Edgefield to Welcome Southern Studies Showcase

Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society and Old District African American Genealogical Society are hosting the Southern Studies Showcase on Sept. 28-29.  The two-day showcase features approximately 20 speakers with sessions on history and genealogy carried on simultaneously at several locations.

There will also be various activities going on during the showcase:

The Old Edgefield Grill is going to open for breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning.  Their master chef has a wonderful menu planned and at a very reasonable price.

Oakley Park Museum is offering a lunch and tour combo on Saturday that will entice many individuals, especially those with an interest in Confederate or Reconstruction era history.

On Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., there will be an opening of the Edgefield Groundhog Kiln.  Edgefield Pottery of all types and descriptions will be sold straight from the kiln!  This is a really exciting event and anyone interested in pottery will definitely not want to miss it.

The three activities above are not limited to just attendees of the Southern Studies Showcase, but are open to all interested individuals.

On Friday evening, there will be a “Block Party” on the Edgefield Courthouse Square for registered participants ONLY that will include music, dinner, and a reenactment.

Over 100 registrations have been received from not only South Carolina, but also New York, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, and Georgia.
