Sweetwater Community Center to be Resurrected

In an interview with the Coopers (Hank and Bobbie who live in Virginia) this newspaper heard confirmed on Tuesday that the Sweetwater Community Center is being taken over by the County, a gift of the Coopers.  As seen in the photo, it has been cleaned and boarded up, and is in better condition than expected, according to Bobbie Cooper.

A meeting was held with county officials, Councilwoman Blackwell, and the Coopers and from that meeting has come the plans, going forward with the help of fundraising (according to Mrs. Cooper), to create a community center and a fire substation that will service EMT calls, also.

“Very exciting,” were Mrs. Cooper’s words, an echo of feelings throughout the county.  The Advertiser ran a picture of the historic building some months ago which brought a lot of interest and memories from readers.  Now the site will be emerging into a place, no longer hidden behind trees and bushes, but a full-fledged service building with four acres in the surround for use by the county, also.

It was noted in the interview that a brick structure is in back that may not be in good condition now, but was used most likely for the barbecues held there monthly in years past. It was a great place for politicking, and thanks go to the politicians for their effort in this.
