Johnston’s Final Farmers Market of Year a Great Success

Johnston’s Final Farmers Market of Year a Great Success
Tidwells Ribbon Cutting.

The town of Johnston saw “bumper to bumper” traffic at what Donna Livingston of the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce called the “last hoorah” of the year for the town’s farmers’ market, Thurs., Nov. 29.  Special events to help mark the day included the raffle of a basket consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other items from various vendors, a scavenger hunt, and the ribbon cutting of the newly expanded Tidwell Jewelers.

The winner of the raffled basket, the proceeds from which will go to support future endeavors of the farmers’ market, was Tina Morrison.  The winners of the Scavenger Hunt sponsored by the Johnston Development Corp. were Abby Davis and Tonya Friar.  Each won $100 in Holiday Peach Bucks which can be spent on new purchases throughout the town.

Mrs. Livingston, who spoke with The Advertiser after the event, said the crowds were “just great” and added that it was a great way to end this year’s farmers’ market.  She stated that the streets were full all day beginning at 10:30 in the morning until nearly 6:00 in the evening.  Parking spaces were hard to come by, as many vehicles circled the town in search on an empty spot.

There was plenty of food and fun to be had, as local vendors offered a variety of home-grown and home-made items for sale.  Even if you did not arrive hungry, the whiffs of bar-b-que offered by Johnston United Methodist Church were sure to whet your appetite.

According to Mrs. Livingston, the Johnston Farmers’ Market will “kick start” again in May.  As Mrs. Livingston hinted, look for some exciting events to mark that day as well.
