Merle Timmerman Briggs

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – Mrs. Merle Timmerman Briggs, 97, wife of the late Hugh Hamilton Briggs, entered into rest January 19, 2013 at University Hospital. She was affectionately known as “Boo Boo” to friends and family. Mrs. Briggs was born in Edgefield County November 7, 1915 to the late Pierce and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Timmerman. Mrs. Briggs was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since the late 1930’s. She was active in the Sunshine Club for over 50 years and a member of the Martintown Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 45 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Briggs Smith of North Augusta; a granddaughter, Harriett Peters Barden (Mike) of Lincolnton, GA; a grandson, Dr. Kenneth A. Smith (Mary Louise) of North Augusta; great grandchildren include Derrick Quarles and Summer Peters of Atlanta, GA and Briggs Smith, David Smith and Graham Smith all of North Augusta.

Pallbearers will be John Coble, Charles Kemp, David Timmerman, Kelly Timmerman, Doug Timmerman and Stacy Timmerman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Barksdale and Mark Barksdale.

Her funeral will be held at noon in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, with Dr. Joe Lusk officiating. Interment will be in the Berea Baptist Church Cemetery, Edgefield, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Monday, January 21, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm.
