Trenton Council Moving Forward With Renovations to Bank Building

Now that the former First Citizens Bank building officially belongs to the town of Trenton, the town council is moving forward with renovation plans to the landmark.  At their regularly scheduled monthly meeting, Wednesday, Jan. 9, Council was appraised of a recent meeting between Mayor Helen Summer and Administrator Al Harvey with Keith Smith, a building official with the Upper Savannah Council of Governments.  Mr. Smith, who also consulted on the recent library project for the town, did a walk through of the property with the mayor and administrator for the purpose of providing Council with advice on how to best proceed with proposals and specifications in regards to the bidding process on the project.  His recommendations are expected in the near future.

In other business, Council unanimously approved the renewal of the Federal/State Surplus Property Program for 2013.  Council was reminded of the Jan. 15 deadline for filing a Statement of Economic Interest as well as of the Edgefield County Intergovernmental Meeting scheduled for Jan. 29.

Before adjourning, Council decided to give Mayor Summer authority to spend up to $1500 on the purchase of additional Christmas decorations for the square.
