Habitat for Humanity Seeks Volunteers and Donations

Dear Editor:

Each year Habitat for Humanity of North Augusta  (HfHNA) builds a home for a qualified family who is living in substandard housing within the North Augusta and Edgefield areas. The partner is chosen and vetted with the assistance of community members such as local churches and businesses like Security Federal Bank without whom HfHNA would not be successful.

Contrary to popular opinion Habitat for Humanity does not provide free housing. Each selected Partner is required to participate in the actual construction process of the home along side many volunteers. The Partner is also required to qualify for a twenty year mortgage, albeit interest free.

HfHNA has built 14 houses thus far helping 14 families move into more adequate housing and become more productive members of the community.

In order to continue our ministry, we need continued support from our community. First, we need help in identifying those families who are living in substandard housing. Secondly, we would be most appreciative of any financial and service donations, land opportunities and volunteers interested in construction.

Habitat for Humanity North Augusta is staffed solely by non-paid volunteers from the top down, which means nearly one hundred percent of all contributions goes towards the ministry for helping neighbors who otherwise cannot afford adequate housing.

HfHNA was recently named a 2012 South Carolina Angel for being a top ten efficient and effective charity within the state.

If you wish to volunteer or contribute, you can reach me by email at genec349@aol.com or call 803-613-0305 and leave a message.
