National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans is a nationwide observance that comes from the heart of the American people. This year’s National Salute was the week of February 11-17, 2013. Veterans Service Organizations throughout our nations planned and carried out many activities and events to let our veterans know that as protectors and defenders of our country, they are appreciated.

Edgefield County was one who remembered our heroes, also. On Thursday, February 14, members of Unit #30 of the American Legion Auxiliary served breakfast finger foods at the Downtown Division, Augusta VA Medical Center, to veterans and their families coming in for appointments, as well as some of the patients. Members prepared and served sausage biscuits, pigs in a blanket, boiled eggs, muffin, many varieties and flavors of coffee and loaf cakes, brownies, donuts, fruits, orange juice, candy kisses, and more.

What a blessing to be a part of this salute – to let our veterans know how much we appreciate our freedom. Submitted
