One can learn the significance of this photo by reading The Advertiser’s April 3 print edition in which there is a “Ramble Through the Fork” by Owen Clark. Note the P.O. boxes which appear on Woodlawn Rd. at a former Post Office site. They point in the distance to an old Methodist Church, recently restored.

A trip down Woodlawn Road in a “Ramble” by Owen Clark, Johnston writer and historian, is a feature of the April 3 print edition of The Edgefield Advertiser.

In answer to a wish, by some of its citizenry, to give more information about our Merriwether section, a name we use to talk about the “lower part of Edgefield County,” the newspaper asked Owen to travel south and give to the readers the kind of ramble that he has written about Johnston, Trenton and Edgefield in the special festival editions.

“A Ramble Through the Fork” is the first in a series that will come our monthly or bi-monthly as time and space allow. The Ramble is accompanied by photographs of sites along the way.
