Final Suspect Wanted in Spires/Solesbee Attack Captured

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thurs., May 16, that the final suspect wanted in connection with the attack of Edgefield County native Wesley Spires and his friend, Ashley Solesbee, has been captured.  According to Lt. Chew with the RCSO, who spoke with The Advertiser Thursday regarding the capture, Kevin Richardson turned himself into authorities in Elkhart County, Indiana, around 7:30 Wed. night, May 15.  Confirmation of his identity was not received until around 11:00 that same night.

Lt. Chew confirmed the RCSO had knowledge of “some sort of connection” Richardson had to Indiana.  It is believed that connection could possibly be relatives in that area.  Lt. Chew said Richardson is currently being held by Elkhart officials but will hopefully be back in Richmond County custody in the near future.

Richardson will likely face the same charges, robbery by force and aggravated assault, with which the other suspect in this case, Robby Moses has been charged.  As previously reported by The Advertiser, Moses was arrested over the weekend of May 11 in Newberry, SC.  With Moses at the time of his arrest was a woman described as his girlfriend, Dominique Hale.  Moses and Hale were also connected to and charged in another attack that occurred the day before the Spires/Solesbee attack.  However, Lt. Chew said Richardson is not believed to have been involved in this other attack.  Additionally, Lt. Chew said the RCSO is confident Richardson and Moses were the only two individuals involved in the Spires/Solesbee attack.

Wesley Spires and Ashley Solesbee were attacked May 3 on the Riverwalk in Augusta, Ga.  The were beaten with pipe-like weapons in what Lt. Chew called an attempted robbery.  Cell phones were taken in the attack, but the suspects were unable to take any money from the pair.

Solesbee was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.  Spires, however, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.  He is now battling pneumonia as well as the head injuries he received as a result of the attack.  Accounts have been established at several local banks to assist Spires and his family with his medical costs.  A BBQ plate sale has also been planned for June 1, at the Westside Community Center to benefit Spires.
