Car Chase Through Town Leads to Charges

A car chase that started on Bacon Street in Edgefield and ended at the apartment complex on Woodland Ave., Sat., July 27, has led to multiple charges against a Trenton man.

According to a report filed by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy with the ECSO requested information on a white Chevrolet Suburban seen driving suspiciously in the town of Edgefield.  Dispatch notified the deputy that the tag number from the vehicle was actually registered to a Chevrolet Impala.

When the deputy initiated his blue lights and sirens in an attempt to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle made several maneuvers to allude the deputy including accelerating in speed, turning onto other streets, and improperly passing other vehicles on the town square.  The driver eventually stopped the vehicle at the aforementioned apartment complex whereupon he exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.  A passenger, whose child was also in the vehicle during the incident, was able to provide law enforcement with the driver’s identification but was unable to explain why he failed to stop for the deputy.  She said she repeatedly asked the man to stop, but he refused.

Arrests warrants are being obtained for the driver in connection with this case.  He is being charged with failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to register a vehicle, and child endangerment.  The vehicle in this incident was towed.
