David Acrill Fort

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Reverend David Acrill Fort, 89, died at home on Sunday, July 28, 2013.

David was born in Gaffney, SC to the late James Claude and Gladys Coker Fort. He attended The Darlington School in Rome, GA, Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC, and the University of the South in Sewanee, TN where he received his Masters of Divinity. David honorably served his country in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII. He served as an Episcopal priest in Mississippi and South Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Poole Fort; three children, Margaret Fort Bridgforth of Spartanburg, SC, Daniel Wilkins Fort of Charlottesville, VA, and William Acrill Fort of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren; and his brother, James Coker Fort and his wife, Jean, of Charlotte, NC.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30th, 4-6pm at the Piedmont Club, 361 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.

The graveside service will be Wednesday, July 31st, 10:00am in Oakland Cemetery on College Drive in Gaffney, SC, 29340.
