The Purple Fence Hosts Mike Frost & Lauren Meccia

purple_fenceThe Purple Fence at 102 Courthouse Square, Edgefield, is fast becoming a mecca for musical entertainment, events, local art and exceptional floral design.  Stepping into the spacious store, created by visionary and artist Pamela Urban-Moore, is entering a landscape of creative inspiration. Described by Pamela as a center for artistic expression and experiment, it is a gallery where artists can display work that explores art with no restriction or border.

An exciting calendar of events is scheduled this fall at The Purple Fence, 102 Courthouse Sq., in Edgefield. Live music is scheduled each month, beginning with Mike Frost Band in concert Saturday, October 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In an interview with the Aiken-based musicians, Mike Frost and Lauren Meccia, they both expressed their eagerness to return to this venue for the unique setting. According to Mike, a musical event here is “like a house party or private concert.” What is most enjoyable to Lauren is the ability to “connect with the audience”. Often musicians and audience are separated with bright lights or distance. At The Purple Fence there is no physical “stage” to limit the musical experience and is growing into an experiment in the Arts and a memorable evening for anyone looking for an intimate music setting. This is the third performance at the Purple Fence for the Mike Frost Band.

I can tell you first hand that this talented group tailors their concerts for the audience, and this is what makes them exciting and well worth spending the evening with. Vocalist and fantastic saxophone performer, Lauren Meccia is a South Carolina native and is director of instrumental ensembles at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Mike Frost is an incredible bass artist with a vast array of performing experience and is a lecturer in applied bass at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Their recent creative endeavor is a DVD “Live at the Red Pepper” (filmed live at the Red Pepper Cafe in Aiken). This and several of their music CDs will be available at the event. Hearing this band live their special interest in connecting with the interests and mood of the audience. If you are not familiar with their sound, it is a keen fusion of known jazz, R & B, modern ballads to on-the-spot musical creations that transport the listeners and remind us all of the breath-taking limits of art.

The Purple Fence is now joined by local florist, Maine, whose creations are sought after for a variety of occasions. A notable talent, with several decades of experience, his work is filled with an expressive energy, often a fascinating juxtaposition of simplicity and grandeur. His accomplished creative skills are available for seasonal home decorations as well as special events and churches.

Art classes by the owner of The Purple Fence and multi-talented artist, Pamela, are held on Thursdays. She specializes in elegant paintings on ceramics, furniture, and canvas. This growing collection of art is a wealth of inspiration based on the quality of expressive pieces found within the spacious location. Not only is the building open to art during the day, it is now available to host events including private parties, karaoke, paint-and-play events.

The Purple Fence is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
