Charles Loney Dunn

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Rev. Charles Loney Dunn 87, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2013.

He was born October 15, 1926 in Conway, SC to late, Loney Calvo and Mary Ettie Dunn. He served in the US Navy during WWII, graduated from Conway High School, Campbell College, High Point College, and received his Masters of Divinity from Erskine Seminary. He was an Elder in the SC Conference of the United Methodist Church. Called by God to serve Bluffton Charge, Scranton Charge, Shiloh Station, New Zion, Lockhart Wesley Charge, South Carolina Conference Staff, Mt. Pleasant Columbia Charge, St. James UMC (Columbia), Edgefield, and retired from active ministry in 1990. He was honored with Pastor Emeritus from St. James UMC in Columbia where he worshiped. He was a member of Dentsville Masonic Lodge and York Rite Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne Comer Dunn. She was not only his soul mate but his partner in serving the Lord. His son, Charles Mitchell Dunn (Julie); daughters, Carole Anne Wall, (Mike) Pamela Dianne DeLaBarre (Charles), Jean Lynette, (Willis); and his grandchildren, Charles Travas Dunn, (Heather) Francis Elwyn Dunn, (Berri) Wayne Edward Brown, Andrew Michael Wall, Kimberly Brown Hicks, Tyler Stuart Wall, Christopher Mitchell Dunn, Willis H Jenkins, III, Matthew Preston Jenkins, (Laura); his great-grandchildren, Chandler Scott Wise, Caitlin Alyssa Jenkins, Summer Marie Brown, Valerie Michelle Jenkins, Abigayle Christine Dunn and Brayden Riley Hicks. He is also survived by his sister, Eugenia Benton; brothers, Francis Sydney Dunn, (Gladys), Elwyn Henry Dunn, (Millie), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary pallbearers are the South Carolina United Methodist’s Clergy and Brothers from Dentsville Lodge.

A funeral service for Rev. Charles L. Dunn will be held 1 o’clock, Wednesday, December 4th, at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
