Test Drive Leads to Larceny

A man who wished to sell his vehicle allowed a potential buyer to test drive his truck for a few days.  However, a few days turned into three weeks and now the truck and the potential buyer are believed to have left town.

According to a report filed with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, an Edgefield County man loaned his white single cab 1999 GMC 1500 pickup truck to Jessie Perkins of Beaufort, SC, on Nov. 22, 2013.  However, according to the report, shortly after this, Perkins quit showing up for work and is believed to have left town in the victim’s truck.  Contact with Perkins via phone has been attempted, but he has not responded.

In addition to the truck, Perkins is also accused of having taken two saws and climbing gear from the same victim.  In total, it is believed Perkins made off with an estimated $4200 in stolen goods.

This incident has been turned over to the ECSO, and the investigation into this crime is continuing.
