GED Classes: The Edgefield County Adult Education Program is offering Evening GED Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Johnston Learning Center,located at 117 Cardinal Drive, Johnston, SC 29832. if interested, please call (803) 275-4158 to register.

Free Seminar: Hitchcock Healthcare of Edgefield will host a free seminar on back safety and physical therapy on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 9:00am.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Hitchcock Healthcare is located at 211 Norris Street.  For more information please call 637-1801.

Flag Burning Ceremony: On March 20, at 5:30 p.m.  Strom Thurmond Navy Junior ROTC cadets will be joining the Edgefield American Legion Post #30 for a flag burning ceremony.  The unserviceable flags of our will be disposed of in a solemn commemoration.   The public is cordially invited to witness the event. Worn and unusable flags may be turned in at Veterans Admin. Office or Strom Thurmond High School.

Oyster Roast/Chili Cook-Off: The Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Oyster Roast/Chili Cook-Off, Friday March 21, 6-9 p.m. at the National Wild Turkey Federation Pavilion, 770 Augusta Road, Edgefield. $30.00 adults and $10.00(children 12 & under)  will include oysters, chili, bbq;$10.00 – will include chili, bbq and hot dogs. Get your tickets today from the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce office, 416 Calhoun Street, Johnston.  803-275-0010. Proceeds from this event will benefit “Fill-A-Bus” school supply campaign and the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce.

BBQ Dinner:Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church, 96 Edisto Street,  will have a BBQ chicken plate sale on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. The cost is $7 for a half chicken, potato salad, cole slaw and bread.

Hair & Fashion Show:The Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center’s Cosmetology Department is presenting its annual Hair and Fashion Show on March 22,  in the Strom Thurmond High School cafeteria. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. The show begins at 6:00 pm and refreshments are provided.

Anniversary: Bethlehem Baptist Church of Edgefield Women’s Mission Ministry will be celebrating their 19th anniversary on Sunday, March 23, at 3 p.m.. The public is invited.

Revival: Mount Canaan Baptist Church, 2451 Edgefield Rd., Trenton, will have revival services March 26, 27 & 28 at 7 p.m. with Rev. Fred Coit revival pastor. In preparation for the revival the sanctuary will be open from noon to 7 p.m. March 24 & 25 for meditation and prayer. Everyone is invited.

Peach Blossom Pageant: The Johnston Peach Blossom Festival beauty pageant will be held on Saturday, April 5 at Johnston Elem. School  at 10:00 and 3:00. Young ladies between the ages of birth-20 are invited to compete. The Miss (17-20) will be awarded a scholarship to the college of her choice. The deadline for applications is Wed., March 26. Open Mike Night; Join us at New Horizon Baptist Church, 124 Shaw Road, Saluda, S.C. on March 29, for an Open Mike Night singing. Everyone is welcome. Dinner(spaghetti, lasagna, pasta, salad and desserts) will be served at 6 p.m. and the singing at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Steak Supper: Annual Steak Supper of the Johnston American Legion will be held April 5,: tickets are $14 per meal, eat-in or eat-out, 5:00- 7:00 p.m., at the Johnston American Legion Post headquarters. This is a fundraiser for supporting the Wounded Warriors and for sending students to Boys & Girls State.

Retirement Ceremony: Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church will have a retirement ceremony to celebrate Rev. Ernest M. Gordon’s 46 years with the church and his 50 years as a pastor. The ceremony will be held April 6, at 3 p.m. at JET Middle School. Everyone is invited to thank Rev. Gordon and his wife and their years of dedicated service.

“Journey to Easter”: a live performance depicting the final week of Jesus Christ will be held Sunday, April 6, 3:00pm at Kendall Mill, Norris Street, Edgefield.  One presentation with the Market Place activities following.  Free admission, all are welcome!  Presented by Edgefield United Methodist Church.
