Amelia D. “Boots” Reece

EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Amelia D. “Boots” Reece, 87, widow of John W. Reece, Sr., died June 8, 2014 at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. Visitation will be held at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, Thursday, June 12, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Eastview Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12. Pallbearers will be the eight grandchildren.

Born in Saluda, S.C. she was a daughter of the late Sheriff Gary Davis and Rose Paysinger Davis.

She was foremost known as a loving mother and grandmother but had a successful professional career including serving as magistrate for Edgefield County in the 60’s and was founder and editor of The Edgefield County News in the 70’s.

Survivors include: sons Jack Reece(Sandra) of Edgefield and Dan Reece (Myra) of North Augusta; son-in-law Joe Friar of Edgefield; grandchildren: Eleanor R.  Leaphart(Chad) of Gilbert, Joseph Friar of Aiken, Amy R.  Timmerman(Paul) and Elizabeth R. Harm(Ben), both of Aiken, April F. Holt(Eric) of Lexington, Anna F. Joyner(Chad) of Edgefield, Kevin Reece and Trib Reece, both of North Augusta; a brother, Buck Davis (Eileen) of Saluda and twelve great-grandchildren: Allie and Wells Harm, Hannah and Ethan Holt, Landon and Reece Joyner, Jack, Gray and Ella Jane Leaphart, and Kate, Will and Max Timmerman.

Mrs. Reece was also predeceased by her daughter, Sandra R. Friar, two brothers Jack and Pete Davis and a sister, Peggy Yonce.
