Dr. Patrick McMenamin, “Dr. Mac” to his team, is now serving the Edgefield County-Ridge area through the Edgefield County Hospital. He is among the new specialists who come to the hospital periodically to service the diagnoses that are his specialty. He is an otolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon whose specialty sounds complicated. However he explains it as surgery having to do with those issues of the throat, ears and nose – “holes in the eardrum, sinuses, allergies, swallowing disorders, etc.”

Dr. Mac has taught medicine, in his field, also, and he speaks in an interview as a teacher might, with ample words to clarify his stance. It is evident in the interview that he enjoys his work, and though he has taught, now prefers serving the patient – “I like to operate and I like to serve people.”

Some of his teaching experience includes some years at Johns Hopkins (where he also studied), at Travis Air Force medical facility and as a professor at University of California at Davis.

The reason for Dr. Mac being here, now, has to do with “the opportunity to serve.” He notes that there are 10,500 in his specialty, and this area is somewhat underserved. For those needing his help, his office is in the Medical Clinic on Medical Plaza Rd. For more information, call ECH at 637-3174.
