Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston Announces Retirement

After seven years as Johnston’s Police Chief, Chris Aston announced his retirement from law enforcement at Johnston’s Town Council meeting, Monday, June 9. After making it official, Aston spoke with The Advertiser regarding his 23 year law enforcement career and his impending departure from it saying “It’s been a good ride, and I’ve enjoyed it.” As for what he plans to do in retirement, Aston said he is “just going to embark on new endeavors and see where it takes me.” Asked what those new endeavors might be, Aston hinted at possibly joining a family business or even maybe going back to school. But before he starts anything new, Aston said he just might take a little break. However, Aston reminded that working with law enforcement is hard to get out of your blood and said, “I’m not saying I’ll never work in law enforcement again.” While he is going to try some new things and “work on another retirement,” Aston added, “If I get to missing it [law enforcement], I might go back.”

Aston said he wanted to thank the town, especially the citizens, for their support and spoke of how he enjoyed working with the other officers. “It’s not every day you get to work with heroes,” Aston stated.

While he may be leaving his post as Chief, Aston will not be leaving the town of Johnston and plans to remain active in the community. Aston’s last day as Police Chief of Johnston will be July 9.
