Paul Joyner Summer

AIKEN, S.C. – Mr. Paul Joyner Summer, 76, husband of Cherie Gordon Summer, of Aiken, died at the University Hospital, Augusta, GA on Sunday June 8, 2014.

Graveside services will be held Thursday June 12 at 11:00 A.M. at Harmony United Methodist Church, Johnston, SC with the Rev. Steve Keck officiating. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service in the church.

Mr. Summer was born in Ward, SC on June 17, 1937. He was the son of the late James H. Summer and Margaret Joyner Summer. He served in the National Guard and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass as an industrial engineer. He was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was a member of the Men’s Prayer Breakfast that met each Friday morning. Paul was a loving husband for 29 years. He was a die-hard Clemson Tiger fan and in addition to enjoying Clemson football, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He had a great love for his sons and grandchildren and was always proud to share their accomplishments with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, two sons Jay Summer (Penny) Poland, OH and Joe Summer (Melissa) Trenton, SC; seven grandchildren, Joel Summer, Jr., Joshua Summer, Matthew Summer, Margaret Summer, Lauren Summer, Justin Summer and Shannon Burton; one great-grandchild, Hunter Summer; two sisters, Barbara Kneece (Monroe) Johnston, SC and Carolyn Griffin (Sonny), Cordele, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harmony United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 186, Johnston, SC 29832.
