The Old Edgefield Blacksmith Shop is beginning to bustle again. Jamie Von Stevens, the Edgefield Blacksmith, is making way for teaching folks interested in learning the art of blacksmithing.  This is happening because she bought an old blacksmith shop in Georgetown and moved it here, which gives her several stations to work in – with lots of extra tools purchased in the sale.

This is good news, and there is more.  Jamie has carved in clay three images for creating cameos that will eventually be cast in Edgefield pottery, first, and then probably in bronze.  These cameos will have frames bearing necessary attachments for wearing..

And the cameos are so Edgefield.  There is one that is a camellia in full bloom with leaves; next are two images of Lucy Pickens – one silhouette from the $100.00 Confederate bill and the other from a well known photo/portrait.  These images are in wax form now, waiting for the next step.

Tomkins Library and Old Edgefield Pottery are a part of this venture.

Jamie is also doing fundraising in her work.  There is a “prize” found in the Tompkins Library/Lynch annex window to be raffled off.  Folks have to buy a little anvil (these are found now in Tompkins Library) which gives them a chance for the prize.

Anyone interested in classes or knowing more about the fundraising (for cancer) and cameos, call Jamie at 803-665-7083.  Also Tonya at Tompkins Library 637-4010.
