Multiple Car Break-ins

Sixteen separate car break-ins were reported to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, Tuesday, Aug. 5, all centered around the same area in the North Augusta section of Edgefield County. According to the multiple reports filed with the ECSO regarding these crimes, the thefts occurred sometime during the night time hours between Monday and Tuesday on Long Drive, Stephens Road, Stephens Mill Court, and Bakers Branch Drive. Stephens Road and Bakers Branch Drive were the two hardest hit areas with six and seven break-ins reported there respectively. In a few instances, the vehicles were merely ransacked and no items taken. However, there was a total of approximately $2500 worth of merchandise reported stolen and about $25 in loose change was taken. The items stolen included an MP3 player, GPS systems, sunglasses, cds, cologne, knives, purses, speakers, and jewelry. Some of the vehicles were left unlocked but others were reported to have been locked. At least $150 worth of damage was reported as a result the thieves attempts to gain entry into the vehicles. The scenes were processed for evidence, and the ECSO is investigating these crimes.

Cows Stolen From Long Cane Road

Eighteen cows were reported stolen from a farm on Long Cane Road, Monday, August 4. According to a report filed with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, the victim had last checked on the herd 2-3 weeks prior to finding the 18 gone. The fencing surrounding the property was checked and found secure and no signs, that the animals had escaped their pastures was evident. At the current market value for cattle, the missing cows are estimated to be worth $18,000. The ECSO is investigating this incident.
