Basketball Playoffs Underway for Area Teams

Director of Athletics, Kathy James, advised The Advertiser that Wardlaw Academy’s state tournament game schedule will not be released until late Tuesday evening February 16, 2016.  The Lady Patriots finished #4 in the region with a 7-14 overall record and the boys finished #3 in the region with a 17-7 overall record.

The #2 seeded Lady Rebels began their playoff battles for 2016 against Landrum Tuesday at home. Landrum is out of the Region I AA and is a number 3 seed.  The Cardinals enter the playoffs with a 15-7 season record 10-4 in their region. The Thurmond girls are 17-7 on the season with only one loss in region play. A win for the Lady Rebels will land them in a round two game against the winner of #1 seed Keenan against #4 seeded Cheraw this Friday.

Strom Thurmond’s boy’s basketball team will host Pendleton Wednesday.  The Rebel men are also #2 seeded going into tournament play. Pendleton is a three seed also out of Region I AA.  The Bulldogs are 12-8 on the season and 8-6 in their region.  Thurmond is 12-12 on the season and 7-3 in region.  A win for the Rebels sets up a round two matchup against either #4 seeded Buford or #1 seeded Keenan this Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Fox Creek’s boys opened tournament play Tuesday night the 16th hosting #3 seed Greenville Tech out of Region II A.  The #2 seeded Predators enter tournament play with a 13-13 regular season record, 8-3 in Region I A.  The Greenville Tech Warriors are 8-6, 6-3 in their region.  A win by the Predators sends them to a second round game against the winner of the Calhoun County-Lamar game.

The Fox Creek girls opened Monday night at Christ Church.  The #4 seeded Lady Predators enter the tournament 4-6 in their region and seeded #4 while their opponent is a #1 seed with a 20-3 season record, 13-0 in their region.  The winner will take on the victor of the Lamar vs North game Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

#2 seed Ridge Spring-Monetta Girls opened their tournament journey against #3 seed McBee Monday night.  The game was played at RSM.  RSM enters tournament play with a 4-3 region record against the 2-5 McBee Panthers.  The winner of the opening round will take on either McCormick or Greer Middle College on Thursday.

RSM Trojan men, 10-2 in Region play, opened with Lewisville at home Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.  The #2 seeded Trojans take on the Lions who posted a 14-9 regular season record and are seeded #3.  The winner of this one gets either Southside Christian or Calhoun Falls Friday.
