Mrs. Mary O. McClain

North Augusta, SC—Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary O. McClain, 86, of the Sweetwater Community, who entered into rest February 2, 2016, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Sweetwater Baptist Church. Dr. Paul W. Noe officiating. Interment in the Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mrs. McClain was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Leta Kathleen Wise Oliver, having made North Augusta her life-long residence. She was a member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church, the Minnie Mathis Sunday School Class, a former member of the Women’s Missionary Union and former Church Treasurer. Mrs. McClain was a 1946 graduate of North Augusta High School and attended Lander College. She retired from Georgia-Pacific Corporation as an Executive Secretary and the Medical College of Georgia as an Administrative Assistant. Mrs. McClain enjoyed Family History and was a member of the Beech Island Historical Society, the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society and the Augusta Genealogical Society.

She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who showed caring concern for her family and others.

Mrs. McClain was predeceased by her husband, James Benjamin McClain, Jr., a son, Jimmy McClain, a brother, Dan Oliver and a sister, Leta Landrum Oliver.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Judy McClain, North Augusta; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Billy Todd, North Augusta; four grandchildren, Dr. Craig D. (Natalie) McClain, Boston, MA, Brooke (Preston) James, Houston, TX , Benjamin D. (Emily) McClain, Lawrenceville, GA and J. Douglas McClain, North Augusta; eight great grandchildren, Olivia McClain, Abby McClain, Mark McClain, Caroline McClain, Isla M. McClain, Caitlyn James, Morgan James and P.J. James; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Harry Miller, Jim Miller, Ricky Miller, George Whatley, Ben McClain and Clay Thompson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5 until 7.
