Sixth Annual Shamrock Run – In Memory of Sandra Friar

Edgefield’s sixth annual Shamrock Run/Walk will be held on St. Patrick’s Day this year, Saturday, March 17   and it will begin at 11 a.m. at Bi-Lo with proceeds going to Relay for Life. On the same day the Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an Oyster Roast on the square in Edgefield from 1-4 p.m. with proceeds going to Fill-A-Bus School Supply Drive. Also on the square after the run will be face painting, prizes for the Best Irish Dress and the children’s Leprechaun Lap for those 7 and under.

Both events are in memory of Sandra Reece Friar, who bravely and courageously fought her battle with cancer before passing away on September 11. Sandra served the Edgefield County School District as the Public Information Officer for 28 years. In addition, she was director of the District’s Ameri Corp program. She was very involved with the students, teachers and community and it showed in her work over the years. Not only did her dedication and genuine spirit shine through her work, it also showed in her love of family. She was survived by her husband, three children,  four grandchildren, and her mother. Her husband Joe states, “We are so very honored that Sandra’s genuine spirit and hard work is being honored and is bringing the community together for such a great cause. “
