Attempted Break-in at Edgefield Library

During a routine walk-through of the town of Edgefield Monday night, Aug. 27, an officer with the Edgefield Police Department found the doors to the Edgefield County Library askew by an apparent attempt to break-in to the public building. The discovery was made around 11:30 and officers quickly processed the scene. Evidence was collected, and Chief Ronnie Carter is hopeful it will lead to the apprehension of the attempted burglar.

Since access to the library was not gained, no items were reported missing. The door sustained no damage either as officers were able to right it.

Lisa Lintner, manager of the library, spoke with The Advertiser on Tuesday and said that the library does not keep a lot of money on the premises. While she did not want to speculate on what the would-be thieves may have been after, she did admit that the library staff was “trying to figure out” what may have enticed the attempted crime.

In regards to their handling of the incident, Ms. Lintner was very complementary of the EPD especially in regards to the repairing of the front door. She explained how the EPD saved the library the expense of a service call by taking the time to fix the door themselves.  Ms. Lintner also commented on how she appreciated the nightly walk-throughs done by the EPD. She, too, is hopeful the evidence collected from the scene will lead to a suspect and possibly reveal the motive for the attempted crime.
