Former Squirrel Champion Bounces Back –

The Red Hill Houndsmen Hunt Club hosted the SC State Championship Squirrel Hunt, Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Brunson Community Center.  Dogs from across South Carolina and Georgia competed for the coveted title of State Champion, but this year’s title went to a local hunter.  Bounce’s Crook, owned by handler Brent Bradley and F.D. Riley, both of Saluda, SC, won first place and the state title with the highest overall points of the hunt.  Interestingly, this dog’s sire, also owned by Bradley, was the first ever World Champion squirrel dog.

Other notable finishers of the day in the registered dog category were DuBois’s Bo Pete who came in 2nd and Possum Hollow Strick who finished in 3rd place.  The DuBois dog was handled by Jerry DuBois of Alcola, SC.  Possum Hollow Strick is owned by Danny Nichols of Whitmire, SC.  In the Champion class, Squirrel Champion Barnett’s Jenia, owned by Britt Barnett of Hodges, won 1st place.
