Melvin Hazel

JOHNSTON, S.C. – Mr. Melvin Hazel affectionately known as Jack, aka Jive Turkey, passed away March 7, 2014. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, at First Church of God and Christ in Jamaica, NY with Pastor Leroy Gillespie presiding.

Melvin was born June 21, 1948, to the late Bennie and Gertrude Hazel of Johnston, S.C. He graduated from W.E. Parker High School in 1970.

He lived in New York for over 30 years where he had a career in security.

His sneaky smile and corky sense of humor would win hearts of all who came to know him. His warm and caring spirit will be remembered forever

He leaves to cherish his memory four sisters, Louise Brown of New York, Betty Blanchard of Aiken, Shirley Stevens of Johnston, and Pauline Young of Columbia; two brothers Heywood Hazel and Marion Hazel, both of Johnston; nine nieces, eight nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will greatly miss him. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Melvin Hazel, Jr. and siblings Benjamin Hazel and Peggie Jackson.
