The Old 96 Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its Christmas tea at the lovely home of Kelly Hagens Swart in Vaucluse. Kelly’s home was decorated from top to bottom with lovely Christmas decorations.  The group had a delightful time enjoying one another’s company and the many delectable refreshments supplied by various ladies.  During the course of the meeting, Mary Watson, chairperson of the good citizen’s award committee, introduced the 2014 winners from area high schools.  Mrs. Watson explained the significance of the award as well as the honor that has been bestowed upon each of the girls winning the award.  Faculty and staff members from Saluda High, Fox Creek, Strom Thurmond, and Wardlaw selected a senior girl who best exemplified the character traits of a good citizen.  Among those traits are dependability, leadership, and patriotism.  The 2014 winners of this award are Rachel Sanders from Wardlaw Academy, Kayla Stephens from Saluda High, Miranda Mullins from Strom Thurmond High, and Paige Fowler from Fox Creek High.  Old District 96 Chapter of the DAR is very proud to participate in this program and to be able to honor well-deserving young people from our community.
