Russell Lawrence Morin

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Russell Lawrence Morin, age 53, son of Navy Captain Gene and Betty Miller Morin, husband of Harris Morrison, died on September 17, 2015. He was the grandson of William Hart Miller and Maude Harling Miller, formerly of Edgefield, and a brother of Mary Beth Duty (Vernon) and Doug Morin, deceased, (Gail). He is also survived by two nephews, Andrew Douglas Duty, and 1LT Wilson Hart Duty, USA; and by a stepson, Mac Berg.

Russ was born Feb 6, 1962, in Charleston, SC, into a career Navy family. After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School, Annandale, VA, he came to Furman University, graduating with the Class of 1984. He loved South Carolina and lived here for the rest of his life. Russ loved music. It touched his whole life from radio station manager at Furman to playing as a gifted keyboardist, guitarist and singer with The Popular Mechanics and then to teaching at Five Oaks Academy Montessori School. He was an earnest enthusiast of the ukulele and became a respected luthier, a builder and craftsman of hand-made ukuleles, for which he had world-wide buyers.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Sept 26 at the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Church.
