Martha Smith Johnson

Edgefield, S.C. – Mrs. Martha Smith Johnson, 95, of Edgefield, wife of the late Clifton Johnson and mother of the late Luther W. Johnson, entered the gates of heaven on March 30, 2015.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday April 2, 2015 at 3 P.M. at Edgefield First Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. before the service at the church.

Mrs. Johnson was born January 30, 1920 in Trenton, S.C. She was the daughter of the late James Robert and Lula Bush Smith.

Martha was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church where she and Clifton would take the tape of the sermons to the shut-ins and visit them each week. They loved the lord and had a servants heart. She was known for her spirited 4’11” self and her sense of humor. She kept us laughing daily, even when things were tough. She got more like Jesus each day until the end.

 

Those that remain to enjoy her memories are her children, Hubert (Sandra) Johnson, Lula (Tom) Ryan, and Lisa (Keith) Black, and a special daughter-in-law Suz Zevenbergin; her grandchildren- Paula (Lynn) Burgin, Jeffrey (Katie) Johnson, Zachariah Johnson, Natasha Johnson, Thomas (Susie) Ryan, Christa (Jason) Gibbs, Benjamin (Jessica) Ryan, Jeremy (Brittany) Ryan, Jonathan Ryan, Daniel (Jacqueline) Black, Matthew (Maria) Black, and Joshua Black. She had 14 Great-Grandchildren that she enjoyed to the end.; 1 Brother- P.B. Smith. She was predeceased by 3 Sisters and 4 Brothers.
