Rev. Lowell Sumpter Clark

JOHNSTON, S.C. – Funeral Services for Rev. Lowell Sumpter Clark, age 86, will be held Monday at 11 o’clock at Gilgal Baptist Church, Edgefield.  Burial will be private in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home, Johnston, Sunday afternoon from 5- 7 pm.

Rev. Clark passed away Friday at his residence. He was a son of the late Alonzo Sumpter and Bertha Jordan Clark.   After graduation from Clemson University, he was employed at SRS until his retirement in 1983. During this time Rev. Clark became an ordained Baptist Minister and served Dry Creek Baptist Church for 45 years and Gilgal Baptist Church for 31 years. He also served as interim in several churches in the Ridge and Edgefield Associations and Barr’s Chapel. Rev. Clark was a member of Kadosh Lodge 181 and served as District Deputy for the Ninth Masonic District.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Ada Reid Clark; daughters: Jenny Paschal (Jim), Caron Miller (Michael), Rebecca Nichols (James) and Rita Stewart (Charles); ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son: Lowell Sumpter Clark, Jr.
