Sheriff’s Office Seeks Public’s Assistance

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding information related to two recent crimes according to an ECSO spokesperson who spoke to The Advertiser earlier this week regarding the incidents. Those two crimes are the armed robbery and shooting death at Winn’s Grocery and a hit and run in Johnston.

Walter Winn was shot and killed when his grocery store on Hwy 378 was robbed Friday, Aug. 21.

Richard Broadwater died the following evening a little after 8:00 in a fatal hit and run on Monument Drive.

The ECSO spokesperson told The Advertiser that no suspects or vehicles used in either of these crimes have yet been identified. They are asking for citizens who live in or may have been in or around the areas near the times these crimes were committed to call the ECSO if they believe they have any information that might be relevant to these cases. Such information might include suspicious vehicles or people not ordinarily seen in the areas. To report any information, please call 637-5337. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
