Armed Robbery on Hayes Drive

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Hayes Drive, Saturday, April 9, after receiving a call about an armed robbery involving a firearm.  Upon arrival, responding law enforcement spoke with the victim who stated that while at the Gregs Gas Plus gas station on Edgefield Rd. in Aiken County, he was approached by a black male who punched him in the eye.  The victim stated that the he and the suspect began to fight until another person broke up the fight, and he, the victim, then left the scene.  However, the victim relayed that as he pulled into the residence on Hayes Dr., the same subject pulled in behind him driving a burgundy Cadillac Escalade.  The victim stated that the suspect then approached him and pointed a chrome pistol in his face and told the victim that if he told anyone about the burglary that happened the week before, he would kill him.  The victim said that the suspect then went into the victim’s pocket and withdrew about $120 before leaving the scene.  The victim said that he did not know where the suspect went after he left the scene.  A witness at the scene corroborated the victim’s statement saying she saw all the events and heard the threats made to the victim in which she said the suspect threatened to kill the victim and his family.

The victim in this incident was transported to Aiken Hospital’s emergency room by EMS for treatment of the injury to his eye.  He was advised to contact Aiken County Sheriff’s Office in regards to the incident that occurred at Gregs Gas Plus.

The suspect in this incident has been identified, but name is being withheld pending confirmation.  Warrants have been obtained by the ECSO for his arrest on the charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime.

The Advertiser did ask a spokesperson with the EDSO about the burglary mentioned in the victim’s statement.  However, that ECSO spokesperson stated that the victim stated to an investigator looking into this matter that he had no knowledge of a burglary and did not know to what the suspect was referring.
