In January, Johnston and Edgefield advertised about the coming elections for Mayor and Town Council, April 7, 2026. That time is nearing, and the Advertiser wishes to bring the elections to the attention of the citizens, giving them the slates of candidates, where to vote and to announce that these elections are nonpartisan, so no party affiliation will be placed on the ballot.
In Johnston, as told by Johnston Town Hall, the Mayor is a candidate, but no one came forth to run against Mayor Thomas Holmes, so he runs, unopposed. Two Wards are up for reelection, Ward 2 and 4. Mr. Tim Berry, Ward 2 representative, announced recently that he is not running again for the seat he occupied, leaving It open for new candidates. One came forth recently, Mr. David Herlong, Jr., who will be the sole candidate for the position of Ward 2 Councilman. For Ward 4, a seat held by Mr. Tommy Burton for some time, there will be no opposition and he is running again.
In Edgefield, there are four candidates who signed up to run for the Mayor’s seat. Mayor Ken Durham is running again, and he will meet with opposition from these three: Mr. Alex Hamilton, Mr. John Sherry, and Mrs. Trish Seymour.
For Those voting in Johnston, the two precincts available and open are: Johnston #1 – American Legion Post (99 Edisto Street), and Johnston #2- Johnston Elementary Gym (514 Lee Street} ; in Edgefield, Edgefield #1 – W. E. Parker School (4 Crest Road) and # 2 – American Legion (314 Penn Street}.
