Lillian Hughes

JOHNSTON, S.C. – A Memorial Service for Mrs. Lillian Holmes Cooner Hughes, age 89, will be held at Johnston First Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11 o’clock.    The family will receive friends at the church in the Lon Knight Fellowship Hall following the memorial service.   A private interment will be held in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hughes, a native of Johnston, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014.  She was a daughter of the late L. David Holmes, SR. and Maude Nickerson Holmes. Lillian was a graduate of Johnston High School and Winthrop College.    She was an avid sports fan enjoying Strom Thurmond High School and Clemson Football and had many friends including the Beach Girls with whom she spent vacations during the summer at Litchfield Beach.   Lillian was a member of the Hot Supper Club, Johnston First Baptist Church and was treasurer of the Frances West Circle.

Survivors include a son:  Bill Cooner (Patti); daughter:  Emily Cox (Jack); son-in-law: Bill Robinson; step-daughter: Carole Hughes (Vin) Delaney; step-son: John Hughes, Jr. (Debbie); 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by husbands; Al Cooner and John Hughes; a daughter; Angela Robinson; and two grandsons: Will and Adam Cox.

Memorials may be made to Johnston First Baptist Church, 700 Church Street, Johnston, SC 29832.
