Armed Robbery at Winn Grocery on Hwy 378 – One Dead [Updated]

The Advertiser has confirmed that Winn Grocery on Hwy 378 was the site of an armed robbery Friday, Aug. 21. Details are still emerging, but sources tell The Advertiser that the male owner of the establishment was shot in the incident and died as a result of his injuries. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the scene, and early reports are that two black males are being sought in connection with this crime. No details on descriptions of those suspects.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that they are looking for two unidentified black males, one described as being light skinned and the other dark skinned, in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at Winn Grocery on Hwy 378, Friday, Aug. 21. The two did leave the convenience store with cash as well a purse and a cell phone belonging to the female owner of the establishment. They are believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle that was parked on a dirt road across from the store.

As previously reported, the 77 year old male owner of Winn Grocery died after being shot in the stomach during the robbery. The female owner, who was also inside the store at the time of the crime, was not injured.

Evidence was collected at the scene, and the ECSO is actively investigating this armed robbery that turned deadly. Anyone with information is asked to call the ECSO at 637-5337. The Advertiser will continue to follow this story.
